Keywords: cultura material, Tawantinsuyo, contacto hispano-indígena, prácticas funerarias
Abstract
We present a reconstruction of funerary contexts from the Late Period-Initial Hispanic Contact indigenous cemetery Los Jazmines at Central Chile, based on the analysis of collections. Funerary contexts show a local prehispanic pattern accompanied by offerings of both Incaic and European attributes. The site is characterized through its material culture, emphasizing on pottery and exotic elements, especially European glass beads. On that basis, we discuss the interaction between different social groups – the local population, Tawantinsuyu and Spaniard representatives, and Andean workers brought to central Chile by them-, to understand processes, continuities and changes on local communities between the 14th and 17th centuries.
