Finite-Time Second-Order Cooperative Control for the Economic Dispatch in DC Microgrids

Abstract

This paper proposes a distributed controller for the incremental cost regulation of DC MGs. The strategy aims to reduce the operation costs of distributed generators in the short time-scale, using finite-time algorithms with second-order dynamics in a consensus protocol. From economic dispatch formulation, an equalisation of the incremental cost and its rate-of-change is yielded by the distributed protocol. The second-order protocol performs the consensus of shared local measurements/estimations of neighbouring generators. The performance is verified via simulations in the software PLECS. A comparison between 1st-order and 2nd-order controllers is made for load changing and Plug Play operations. Results show a reduction in the setting-times and the overall costs of the MG.
