Abstract

Despite the commemorations of its Century, the First World War or Great War is still at the margin of the Latin-American historiography -in Chile particularly- and has been generally studied from a national point of view. This work analyzes Tacna and Arica discourses' and representations about the outbreak of the war in 1914, demonstrating that this conflict had an early and significant impact on the everyday existence of the Tacna-Arica population with particular effects in the region.
