Abstract
Introduction. Self-evaluation is how a person makes an evaluation of himself. This modality is very important for personal and professional development, it involves key aspects for the development of human maturity such as self-criticism, self-knowledge, self-concept, self-objectivity and the ability to constantly think over action, which generates knowledge from the practice. The ability for self-assessment is learned and students should exercise this practice, becoming aware oftheir achievements, mistakes and aspects so they can improve during the skills learning process. The student must have reliable and valid instruments for this process in order to be objective. Goal. To determine the scope of the rubric as a reliable instrument for self-evaluation in clinical learning of nursing students as a result of the in-hospital experience. Methodology: Research with quantitative methodology, where summative evaluation of the clinical practice was performed by applying a rubric by the teacher and by the student at the same time during the second academic semester 2018. Internal and external reliability analysis was performed through the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Student’s T was applied to verify mean differences. Each participant signed off an Informed Consent (CI) Results: 37 students participated. A rubric with Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of .74, CCI of, 655 was obtained. The scores obtained by teachers as hetero-evaluation and students as self-evaluation did not show statistically significant differences, p-value> 0.05. Conclusions: According to the results obtained, it can be affirmed that a valid and reliable rubric is an objective instrument to be used by the students. The reflection on the action generates learning and the ability to evaluate their own performance, which generates in the students a more responsible attitude towards their own learning and stimulates metacognitive skills, which are necessary for a reflective professional practice according to changing and complex context
