Abstract
International experience indicates that there are factors at the personal and institutional level that could intervene in adherence to the use of Personal Protection Elements (PPE) Objective: To establish the correlation between various personal, labor and health context factors that intervene in the use of PPE. Methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional design with a correlational approach. The population subject of a study for the staff of the nursing team. For selection of the participants a non-probabilistic sample was used by quotas. Results: 154 employees participated in the study, and 78% were nursing professionals. Variables that correlated positively with the use of PPE were training, knowledge, disposition of PPE, emotional load and physical work. Discussion: In the current context of the pandemic, it is essential that the institutions have sufficient PPE, continuous training on protocols in line with international standards. If the use of PPE along with hand washing and physical distance is the most cost-effective measures to prevent illness, the negative effects that have their prolonged use in physical and mental health by employees of health disincentives their utilization and them exposes the risk of contagion. Conclusions: Variables with greater explanatory capacity for the use of PPE by participants give rise to knowledge, training and physical and mental overload. The above provides relevant information for decision making in the implementation of protocols and effective strategies in the management of human and material resources.
