Abstract

This paper is a critical study on two fundamental tasks of the Art Museum in the present: its capacity to taxonomize reality and its complicity with the category of Heritage. In the contemporary formulation of the Art Museum, this work discusses the scope and implications of taxonomy as an attempt to (re)produce a unified and continuous regime of legibility and installation of the objects, as well as the investiture of objects as Heritage, and through their possibility of experience, in the manner of a “document-archive” or “simulacrum”.
