Abstract

The massacre of laborers that occurred in the Santa María de Iquique school in 1907 is a historical event that to this day continues to be revisited from different disciplines. From a philosophical perspective, in this article we consider the role that "forgiveness" has over a hundred years after this historical massacre occurred and the possibilities that literature would have of representing the violence or trauma that underlies this massacre. For this purpose, the novel Hijo del Salitre (1952), by the Chilean writer Volodia Teitelboim, has been taken as an object of study, in which the fatal events that occurred in Iquique in 1907 are addressed as a central theme.
