Abstract

a new method is disclosed for producing free pearls unattached to the shell of abalone, preferaly red abalone,Haliotis rufescens, by using nuclei grafted into grafting channel of the abalone viscera, in at least six steps:(a) relaxing abalone in a tank containing water and CO2; (b) implanting a nucleus in a grafting channel of abalone;(c) inserting a piece of mantle tissue in the grafting channel; (d) closing the grafting channel; (e) recovering the abalone; and (f) obtaining the pearl.
