Abstract

The Estación Experimental Vitivinícola de Cauquenes (EE) has its origins in the Viticul-ture School of that city. Founded in 1895, it sought to train specialized technicians in viti-culture. Thirty years later it became an Experimental Station, devoting part of its work to production and another to providing technical assistance to local producers. In subsequent decades, the guidelines dictated by the Ministry of Agriculture were followed: research in viticulture, provision of oenological services and wine production. Transferred to INIA in 1964, the EE strengthened the work in research, developing studies on technical irriga-tion, nutrition, planting density, foliage management, enhancement of traditional dryland varieties and products. Despite the varied and permanent work developed from these fa-cilities, the dissemination has not been compiled and transmitted all over. Therefore, this work seeks to relieve and disseminate the contributions made by the Experimental Station Cauquenes to the chilean viticulture, emphasizing those older antecedents and therefore less known. For this, information was collected from publications, old documents and the memory of those who have been part of this history
