Abstract

The definitions of intercultural are varied. They depend of the histórical context, social and political; or the valued roots of whom writes. In some cases, the concept is assumed as synonymous of intercultural, and in others cases like a overcoming of this. In order to understand the diversity of connotations and the key attributes of the referent of intercultural is the problem that we pretend to resolve . The research uses a qualitative and descriptive methodology oriented to establish the different meanings of the concept of intercultural present in the speech of Latin American and European authors. Data were collected through documentary analysis technique. Among the main conclusions is that intercultural is configured in a space that allows us to travel from an undesirable state to another desired. The undesirable state, is characterized by the relationship of human groups and a society full of tensions and conflicts. The desired state, is a promise and a construction of a process of social interaction with greater harmony and balance in power relations between different cultures.
