Abstract

Cystic Fibrosis It’s a mutation in the glycoprotein CFTR (that has a role as a chloride channel), which affects the entire system, including the immune system. Intrahospitalary infections occur when Fibrosis is hospitalized. When a patient is diagnosticated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa in his lungs, it is too difficult to eradicate. One reason is the biofilm generated by P. aeruginousa, which protects this opportunistic pathogen from any attack, including antibiotic treatments. Our project aims to generate a bacteria capable of weakening the biofilm, breaking one of the main components of this protection: the alginate, and shutting down the communication between the Pseudomonas colonies. We genetically modified E. coli to be capable of using the biofilms of P. aeroginosa as a substrate for food, making it a good candidate for use as a Trojan horse to make P. aeruginousa vulnerable to antibiotic treatment.
