Academic performance in business science students: how do attitudinal, pedagogical and demographic factors influence?
Abstract
This research analyzes the influence of attitudinal, pedagogical and demographic factors on the academic performance of university students of business sciences. The data was collected through a survey applied to 156 students of a Chilean regional public university and analyzed by means of a binary logistic regression. The results revealed that the attitudinal and pedagogical variables mainly influence student performance, while the demographic variables did not show to be significant. Particularly, students are more likely to achieve good performance if they prepare their assessments in advance, study individually, have their own study methodology, have support technology and participate in classes. There is a need to train students in personal planning methodologies for studies, as well as to promote the use of teaching strategies that encourage participatory learning.
