History, experience and exile: the literary project of the Chilean writer Carlos Droguett
Abstract
The historical and political vicissitudes that the Chilean writer Carlos Droguett had to overcome were decisive for the creation of his literary work and a particular poetics marked by violent writing and an angry tone. However, stating emphatically that his literary work maintains direct reference to the historical events depicted in his novels, as has been done by a certain literary criticism, it is not entirely true. This article analyzes how the various historical experiences faced by the writer, such as the so-called Workers' Insurance Massacre that occurred in 1938, the Coup d'etat in 1973 or the exile in Switzerland, had an impact on him and the way that he confronts the historical discourse in his literary project.
