Apuntes sobre Comidas y Dietas en Isla Mocha: Integrando Resultadosde Recursos Vegetales, Animales, Residuos Orgánicos e Isótopos Estables (Provincia de Arauco, Chile)
Abstract
Food remains analyses give us information about people's different daily life aspects since food comprises several physiological, ecological, technological, and socio-cultural dimensions. In order to assess these aspects of the population living in Mocha Island during the Late Ceramic period, this paper assembles both published data and unpublished reports, and degree's thesis from different archaeological research projects carried out at the archaeological sites P29-1, P31-1, P5-1, P12-1, P22-1, P23-2, and P25-1. The results suggest that these communities used wild resources, both terrestrial and marine from different local ecological areas, as well as domesticated resources. Evidence for each resource was found in all the lines of evidence studied (ecofacts, biomolecules, bioanthropological remains). Finally, these communities opted preferably for terrestrial resources of possibly mainland and very likely domestics origin, such as quinoa and camelids.
