Abstract

Urban history is a field of history that focuses on the study of the city and of its urbanization processes. This field has developed from different traditions according to material and temporal contexts and it has been influenced by the shifts that historiography has experienced from the early twentieth century. Urban history is, naturally, an interdisciplinary field, while the collaborative work with specialists and professionals of diverse backgrounds is crucial for examining its objects of study. The different entities, associations, and societies, created in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, also show how urban history has contributed to urban studies and planning.
