Abstract

The Chilean Society of Marine Sciences (SCHCM) and the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (IFOP) organized on December 1-3, 2020 the "International Seminar on Aquatic Resources Management with Ecosystem Approach: Advances, Gaps and Perspectives". The main objective of this seminar was for national and international scientists to share experiences and knowledge on the ecosystem approach applied to fisheries and aquaculture systems. Thus, an insight into this approach was attained, understanding its components, identifying gaps and advances in current applications. The seminar was held remotely and participants included policy makers and scientists from Australia, Canada, USA, Chile, Peru, and FAO. The presentations and discussions provided different perspectives on the regulatory framework, the current state of the ecosystem approach, developments in aquaculture, resource-habitat approaches and other fisheries applications. This paper is a synthesis of the seminar, as a longer paper is being prepared.
