Abstract

The trip of the “Easter Island Commission” in the transport of the Chilean Navy Angamos, in December 1946, triggered a series of events that would change the life of the natives of the distant Rapa Nui. Fritz Felbermayer Blecha, an Agronomist and Austrian engineer who lived in Chile, was an integral part of this Commission. A lover of the rapanui culture, Felbermayer traveled no less than 5 times to Easter Island between 1946 and 1953. During his travels, he was able to meet and share with its inhabitants, taking him to make a series of photographs (about 600) of the people, their culture and the landscapes of the place. This book is a sample of these photographs, most of which were unpublished and protected by the Fonck Museum in Viña del Mar.
