Abstract

IntroductionThe presence of ammonia has been observed in a variety of agricultural, domestic, andindustrial waste- waters, and in effluents from aquaculture activity [1, 2]; where, the existenceof a considerable amount of ammonia in these wastewaters can produce eutrophication in thereceiving water body [1-3].Frequently, the concentration of ammonia in an aquaculture fishpond increases beyondacceptable levels needed for a healthy aquaculture activity; in this cases, the elimination ofammonium from the wastewaters is desirable in order to maintain appropriate water qualityfor the normal life of fishes [4].
