Abstract

This paper proposes a concept of computer crime, and determines its compatibility with the Chilean legal system according to its updated Computer Crime Act (2022). It is argued in the paper that a computer crime is one in which the use of computer technology is essential to the execution of the lawful acts; either because the conduct involves the execution of a computer procedure that can only be verified with a computer device, or because the law specifically limits the conduct to specific modes of execution that are only possible by computer.
