Synthesis, characterization and potential applications of Poly (o-phenylenediamine) based copolymers and Nanocomposites: A comprehensive review
Abstract
Poly(o-phenylenediamine) is an attractive polymer used to enhance spectral, morphological, thermal, and photocatalytic properties and is widely used in sensors, energy-conversion devices, photocatalysis, biomedical fields, etc. However, the functionalization of o-phenylenediamine via copolymerization and composite formation has recently become popular because of the extensive possibilities of monomer combinations and compositions, including their incorporation into various materials. Here, we review the recent studies related to the functionalization of poly(o-phenylenediamine) (POPD) to obtain a scientific and technological overview of this polymer. The chemical synthesis generally yields powdered polymer while thin films can be prepared via electrochemical synthesis. The review examines the significant aspects of synthesis, functionalization, and applications of the functionalized POPD. At the end of the review, existing shortcomings and future perspectives are discussed which will be helpful for researchers working in this field.
