Conflict and the Harmonization of Opposites: The Problem of Democracy in the Political Philosophy of Maria Zambrano
Abstract
Maria Zambrano's political reflection from the 1950s onwards integrates democracy into the relations of everyday life. The epistemological and political turn of the philosopher's proposal is approached from a critical analysis organized in three sections. The first section discusses the epistemological dispute that the philosopher establishes between Aristotle and Pythagoras to address the harmonization of opposites. The second section analyzes the conflict, as an expression of the tension between politics and life, until its drift into a crisis for the West. The third section proposes a political and social perspective for the conflict from the effects of the relational condition of democracy. In the conclusion, some keys to the political philosophy of Maria Zambrano are presented, based on the affirmative condition of conflict.
