Abstract

Variations in wood moisture content lead to changes in virtually all physical and mechanical properties of timber. Besides, the damage to building elements is usually associated with unfavorable changes in material properties, support conditions, geometry, or load variations that can influence the structure's performance or durability. This research is oriented to the monitoring of the behavior of CLT elements under environmental variations. We study the dimensional variations and moisture content evolution in a full-scale prototype structure subjected to the possible environmental changes resulting from the use as a living space. We found that for an indoor relative humidity increase of 30%, the moisture content of the CLT panels rises 3.9% in the walls and 3.5% in the roof panels. Regarding the induced deformations, it is found that the largest displacements occur parallel to the height of the panels
