Review on precipitation, intermetallic and strengthening of aluminum alloys
Abstract
Research on strengthening of Al alloys is rapidly increasing and producing defect free aluminum parts promising substantial movement in the view of manufacturing industries and automobiles. The intermetallic compounds, precipitates, hydrogen entrapment, and alloying elements play an important role in determining the strength of aluminum alloys. To acquire more comprehensive understanding of Al alloys and its mechanical and tribological performance as many research projects were developed. This review presents overview of research studies on the strengthening of Al with the incorporation of different alloying elements and how influence the mechanical, tribological performance entrapment which leads to cracks. Aluminum alloys mainly strengthened by solid solution strengthening, precipitation strengthening, grain /sub grain strengthening and dislocation strengthening. The nucleation and growth of these characteristics data is presented. Moreover, some research gap and challenges for these Al alloys are significantly considered within this review and to fill the gap proportionate research work recommended.
