Abstract

The lexicon is a relevant dimension for the acquisition of a second language in students who are being trained to become language teachers. The aim of this research is to analyze the lexical availability of students and academics of an English pedagogy program at a regional university. This research has a mixed-method approach, and data was collected by applying a lexical availability test made of 8 centers of interest to a sample of 350 students and 25 professors. The results were analyzed through a qualitative and quantitative perspective, including inferential statistics in order to determine whether there was any relationship between the the variable years of education and the students and academics’ lexical availability. In general, findings show that as the years of study of the subjects in the sample increase, the XR and the CI also increase, so that the distance between the lexical availability indexes between students and professors is reduced as they advance in the levels of training. © 2023 Universidad de Playa Ancha de Ciencias de la Educacion.
