INFLUENCIA, PATERNALISMO Y ESTRATEGIAS MORALES EN ESPACIOS EXTRAPRODUCTIVOS. EL CASO DE THE CHILE EXPLORATION COMPANY (TOCOPILLA, 1915-1942).

Damir Galaz-Mandakovic

Abstract

This article describes and examines the exercises of power and extra-productive measures undertaken by the thermoelectric company installed in Tocopilla, The Chile Exploration Company, in charge of electrifying the Chuquicamata mine, in three types of extra-produc-tive spaces: 1) the Company town, 2) the neighborhoods adjacent to the power plant and 3) in the community of Tocopilla. Thanks to the review of primary sources, we want to show that these exercises of influence and control were conceived within the framework of politicization of the new hegemony that the Americans established in those community spaces, the teleological horizon of those exercises being to determine an intervened scene and controlled to promote production, a determining action in the ability to generate a reproduction of capital and thus project consolidated profitability and accumulation thanks to the extractivism of copper. © (2023), (Universidad de Tarapaca).
