Abstract

This paper presents preliminary results regarding the use of genetic algorithms (GA) to improve V2V communications in urban intersections. The work considers the principles of the IEEE 802.11p standard, and looks to improve the range of communication for V2V communications in urban intersections by making the GA learn beam shapes according to the surrounding environment. Preliminary results show that with the same power as an isotropic antenna, the GA is able to improve the power in all relevant directions, which should result in increasing the communication range.
