Abstract

Both men and women are confronted with the fulfillment of different roles, thus creating the need to balance work and family. In the Latin American working population, no evidence has been found on the use of the Work-Family Balance Scale (BTF) to measure negotiated role-related expectations. The purposes of this study were to examine construct validity in 480 Chilean paid workers, using a confirmatory factor analysis, and to test for invariance between dependent and independent workers. Additionally, we sought to determine the relationship between BTF, job satisfaction and family satisfaction in 380 dependent workers. The unidimensional structure of the scale, the configurational, metric and scalar invariance were demonstrated, and finally, the discriminant and predictive validity of the construct was tested. This study contributes to position the BTF Scale as a valid instrument that could guide the management of labor policies to improve the well-being of paid workers.
