Indoor Positioning and Tracking using Sensors of a Smart Device

Farooq, A.

Abstract

Global positioning system (GPS) tracks a desired location and display it on map. However, GPS may not work properly for indoor positioning, when we are concerned with an accurate location of a person inside a building. Therefore, to determine an accurate indoor positioning based on smart devices a scheme is proposed and called iLocation. iLocation measures the location by obtaining and computing values from an accelerometer and a barometer of a smart device. iLocation uses MySQL to maintain records of the computed indoor positions. Such positions are displayed on Google Maps with its images for the verification. iLocation is tested on various real time scenarios and experimental results shows the accuracy, which is better than other existing approaches.
