Abstract

Despite the rapid evolution of imaging diagnostics in recent years, the instructional methodologies in residency programs have remained largely unchanged. This often stems from the programs’ limited flexibility and the teaching teams’ resistance to change. In this article, we will examine three challenges to instigate change: a) the visibility of the radiologist within the heal-thcare team and the role a competency profile can play as a guide; b) the curriculum structure of the programs and the necessity for adaptability to changes; and c) the implementation of mentoring as a supportive strategy for residents and faculty in specialty programs.
