Abstract

The paper assesses the judicial recognition and valuation of unpaid work in three civil law institutions: pecuniary effects of factual cohabitation, economic compensation at the end of marriage or civil union, and civil liability. It is submitted that the way in which these institutions recognize and value unpaid work does not acknowledge its nature as real work and reflects a sexual division of work that undervalues what is identified as feminine.
