Abstract

The elite as a social group, has been scarcely studied at the global level. In this context, this study advances in the analysis of the protection and guarantee of children's rights in elite schools. A qualitative research of multiple case design was developed. The main findings are the tension of the right to quality education, presenting a managerialist and persuasive curriculum; the right to a healthy coexistence and to the expression of one's own identity, finding dynamics of silence around situations of violence, enhanced by an experience of hegemonic masculinity; and the tension around the right to participate, be heard and give an opinion, given that a tutored participation is developed by adults. There is discussion regarding the lack of protection of children's rights in this type of establishments and the impossibility of ensuring them from the current legal regulations. Thus, the findings of the study show that the lag in the fulfillment of the rights of children and adolescents is a cross-cutting issue for social groups in our country. © 2023 Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso.
