Magnetoexciton states and diamagnetic shifts in GaAs-Ga1-xAlxAs quantum dots/ultrathin quantum wells under growth-direction magnetic fields
Abstract
A theoretical study of the exciton diamagnetic shifts in GaAs - Ga1 - x Alx As quantum dots (QDs) and ultrathin quantum wells (QWs), under growth-direction applied magnetic-fields, is performed. We work in the effective-mass approximation and take into account nonparabolicity effects for the effective masses of both the conduction and valence bands. Calculated results for the diamagnetic shifts of the m = 0 ground-state, m = - 1 and - 2 excited states of the heavy-hole exciton, within a simple "QD + ultrathin QW" model heterostructure, are found in overall agreement with recent experimental measurements by Schildermans et al. (Phys. Rev. B 72 (2005) 115312) and Sidor et al. [Phys. Rev. B 73 (2006) 155334]. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
