Abstract

This article comparatively evaluates the validity of the Social Identities and Personal Identity Scale - SIPI- in virtual application format and in the Chilean context, using two different methods of analysis. From a sample of 664 Chilean university students, the scale was applied and validity studies carried out with the confirmatory analysis technique and the social network analysis technique -SNA. The results show that, in situations where the traditional analyses of the validity scales show ambiguous results, as is the case of this study; the SNA provides a complementary result, allowing more accurate conclusions to be reached on the evaluation of the scale. Although both are based on similar analytical logics, the measurements offered by SNA also allow us to study the goodness of fit. Finally, the results of these studies allow the SIPI to be accepted as a valid scale for measuring personal and social identity in Chile and in an online format.
