Implementation of a virtual conference on healthy aging. An online resource for health education as a laboratory space to design a MOOC for Older people
Abstract
A key preventive health strategy for older people is self-care education. A barrier to access to these educational initiatives is the social distance due to instances such as the pandemic, increasing dependence, and exclusion in their participation. To maintain education despite the distance, one solution has been the use of virtual spaces. However, given the lack of knowledge of the profile of technology use, the presence of important gaps in literacy and functionality, and the inequality in access to this type of initiative in Latin American countries, older people have been excluded and vulnerated. This study aims to characterize a group of Chilean older people as learners at a massive online course (MOOC) on healthy aging in order to generate a profile of the use of technologies for self-care. This research results will help the instructional design of MOOCs oriented to older Chilean people.
