Different Approaches to Foster the Emergence of More Diverse Leaders
Keywords: diversity, Leader development, Women in leadership
Abstract
This symposium contributes to the understanding of how to make organizations more inclusive by focusing on making more diverse leaders emerge throughout the organization. The emergence of more diverse leaders participating of the leadership process at all levels in an organization is in itself indicative of an inclusive culture. As such, different papers part of the symposium, address the overarching question of how to foster emergence of more diverse leaders at all levels within the organization? In order to address this question, the papers part of this symposium take two complementary perspectives: one from the individual that we would like to emerge as a leader and, another from the role of ‘others’ in fostering the emergence of more diverse leaders. The different papers explore this issue using diverse methodologies and approaches to the phenomenon in question. This symposium provides rich and complementary perspectives on the topic, brought by a diverse group of researchers from Chile, UK, Germany and USA. Furthermore, the vast experience and expertise of Professor David Day will add to the discussion of the overarching themes presented in each of the papers, as well as highlight directions for future research on the emergence of more diverse leaders.
