Abstract
The current migratory flow to Chile has experienced significant political, economic, and social challenges, making it one of Latin Americaâs most attractive receiving countries. Faced with this new scenario, this study establishes the discursivities and news approaches developed by the elite economic press and the position occupied by political and economic elites in this discussion. Through a content and critical analysis of the discourse, we examine how the discursivities around the migration phenomenon are constructed in the Diario Financiero, El Mercurio de Santiago (EconomÃa y Negocios), and La Tercera (Pulso) between the years 2016 and 2018. The findings revealed that the Chilean elite economic press positions the discourse of a migrant subject as a financial and production body. The journalistic coverage and the importance that the Chilean elite financial media gave to the news regarding the progress of the discussion of a migration policy and its financial benefits revealed the existing relationship between the economic elites and political power.
