Abstract

Although the general acceptance of renewable energy in Europe is high, this perception is frequently very different in the local context where renewable energy projects are located, which can be an obstacle to the energy transition. This article, through a structured survey for two European case studies, province of Jaen (Spain) and Somogy County (Hungary), aims to show the factors influencing the perception and acceptance of renewable energy in society. The results were statistically analysed by correlating the variables "acceptability", "location" and "technologies" through contingency tables and non-parametric tests such as Pearson's chi 2 and Cramer's V. The applied tests show a high acceptability of all the proposed technologies and locations, with a preference for solar photovoltaic installations and medium sizes, in uncultivated or environmentally degraded areas.
