Social claims on album covers of Chilean independent music
Abstract
This article explores the relationship between album covers published in Chile between 2006 and 2020 by indie musicians and the social demands that emerged from young people during those years and culminated in the social outbreak of October 18, 2019. For this, linguistic, denotative and connotative aspects of this visual support of popular music are interpreted. The results show a communication of two messages: one that positions the new gender identities and another that vindicates the culture of native peoples and promotes a new relationship with nature and the environment.
