Abstract

Thinking about the postwar period in PuelMapu: Historical mapping of the press in Patagonia (Argentina). This research aims to register the first newspapers in the extinct Governorate of Patagonia, Mapuche-Puelche territories “incorporated” after the “Desert Campaign”. Its importance lies on the one hand in the disciplinary value of reconstructing the history of the press in extra-metropolitan territories and also making it more complex as an agent in the contexts of incorporation/invasion of the Wallmapu in the Southern Cone. The methodological strategy consisted of classifying the foundational press in those territories based on critical genealogical newspaper analysis. Reviewing the first newspapers born in what today make up the 5 provinces of the Government of Patagonia. The results indicate that the press was configured slowly, compared to the development in Gulumapu (La Araucanía), but remained similar in orientations and characteristics, in line with the installation processes of the Argentine State. But with the distinction that the pioneer newspapers were printed in Welsh. Keywords: Periodical press, Postwar, Argentina
