DE TORO, XIMENA; SARACOSSTI, MAHIA

Abstract

This work describes the design and implementation of a technological platform that aims to improve school engagement and protect students' educational trajectories in Chilean schools. The platform, called SIESE (which stands for Web-Based System to Measure, Monitor, and Promote School Engagement Strategies), was developed collaboratively by academics, technology experts, schools, and government institutions. The system is structured around six steps that facilitate decision-making among teachers, students, and parents, known as the School Engagement Dashboard. Psychometric instruments are used to measure school engagement and contextual factors, generating specific reports for each stakeholder on various dimensions, such as School Engagement, Family Support, Teacher Support, and Peer Support. The information gathered is used to design tailored intervention strategies for each school. This work analyzes the progress and challenges of SIESE, examining the implementation of the system and presenting the achievements and improvements required in terms of management, technology support, and adaptations to different school administrations and student-age groups. Finally, the opportunities and potential of SIESE to improve school management and daily educational practices were discussed, with the ultimate goal of promoting successful educational trajectories in the Chilean context.
