Abstract

This paper briefly describes frost impact on potato production and the changes in plants during cold acclimatization. It reports the latest results on the ectopic expression of Arabidopsis thaliana CBF1 (AtCBF1), its effect on enhancing freezing tolerance in wild and domesticated potato species via genetic transformation and the ectopic AtCBF1 overexpression in Solanum species that mimics many of the multiple biochemical and structural changes that are observed in wild-type plants during cold acclimatization.
