Experiments for local climate governance. The Climate Action Lab of Naples

Keywords: research-action, engagement, climate experiments, climate governance

Abstract

Experiments for local climate governanceBy applying forms of experimental teaching on the effects of climate change to the city of Naples, the contribution looks at ‘urban climate experiments’starting from a university action-research laboratory which, placing itself at the interface between institutions and civil society, facilitates the connection between climate policies and practices. Explaining how the collaboration with the UniNa ClimateAction Laboratory (LAC) has given rise to temporary networks for bottom-up climate action, the paper highlights the potential of university research and teaching on the ‘public engagement’ front. It is a commitment which, taking into account the delays and difficulties of local administrations, is aimed at configuring situated demands for adaptation and mitigation, treating climate governance as a plot for collaborative actions that affect public decisions. Within this horizon, the challenge of the LAC is to territorialize the contrast to the CC by putting the rights connected to climate justice in the foreground.
