Ethical value networks
Abstract
The concept of ethical value networks (EVeNs) is outlined and explored in depth. In order to provide the context for this, we first deal with the impact of globalising agriculture, the rise of ethical consumerism as response and resistance, and the consequent evolution of ethical trade as a form of dealing with injustice and non-sustainability. We pay special attention to certification as a means of codifying ethical trade networks and explore convention theory. In the second half of the chapter we offer an idealised conceptual model for EVeNs. We also introduce EVeNs accumulation profiles as a means of tracing the flow and realisation of ethical value through ethical networks.
