Abstract

In this paper, learning to draw in design workshops is researched as part of the development of the imagination capacity in architecture, the design. For us, imagination mediates knowledge and perception, as proposes Michael Hays. We highlight the productive ability of imagination in architecture, without considering imaginary design as fantasy or speculations of architects. Drawing and imagination allow us to find a purposive sense in architecture. For this reason, our case study is the imaginary gardens of the Introduction to Drawing II course. Based on the three primary geometric forms, small-scale architectures were proposed, consisting of interior landscapes that collected both real and imaginative experiences. In addition to the analysis of this didactic experience, our method is based on a bibliographic review of how drawing is design and can perform critical activity, such as seeing drawings as an aesthetic language of the building.
