Abstract

In this investigation, we analyse a selection of labels of Chilean typical products dated between 1900 and 1960, that were gathered from the Register of Brands of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI in Spanish). The criteria for the selection was considering the most representative cases in design and messages, cases that transmits cultural, social and geographical elements with local producers of Pisco, Chicha, Pajarete, Chacolí, Chamantos, Sidra de papaya and Vinos Asoledos were related. All these products were competing with import trade. Analysing the labels we can find foreigner influence mixing up with the tradition and the efforts to recover national identity.
