Implementation of a certification program for the exercise of competent teaching in engineering education
Abstract
The improvement and development of teaching in engineering is a key issue due to the need to improve and adapt the methods used to current demands and challenges. In addition, it contributes by facilitating the processes of curricular and pedagogical change that higher education institutions undertake. In the current virtual scenario, there are particularities and changes with respect to the regular training needs. The present work aimed to describe the characteristics of a certification program of teaching competencies for engineering in the regular context and in the context of virtual education. For this, the bases and training principles of the program, its sequence and organization are detailed, as well as the main results obtained after 5 years of its start and implementation, as well as the differences observed in the last two years of its e-learning implementation. Reflections and learnings obtained during this period are included, as well as recommendations to facilitate the improvement of engineering teaching. The main results show an impact of the training system in real practice due to its design applied to the classroom context. During e-learning, a change is observed in the demand for support and training topics more oriented towards the evaluation and control of academic dishonesty, educational ICTs and motivation in virtual environments.
