An Archaeological Approach to the Muralism of the Chilean Resistance (1984-1990). Una aproximación arqueológica al muralismo de la resistencia en Chile (1984-1990).
Abstract
Political mural art, whose origins are linked to Mexican muralism, has a long tradition in Chile, particularly in its current expression: popular street art. This essay examines, from an archaeological perspective, Chile’s muralist production in the context of the political struggle against the civil-military dictatorship during the 1980s. Using photographic archives, we propose an analysis of the social practice of painting based on economic and technological criteria.
