Advances in decision-making theory: implications for public financial education policies in Argentina Avances en la teoría de toma de decisiones: implicaciones para las políticas públicas de educación financiera en Argentina

Abstract

This paper aimed to describe the development of the main decision-making models and their connection with public financial education policies in Argentina, using an analytical-synthetic methodology. The theoretical overview carried out shows that these policies base their theoretical foundations mainly on regulatory models that prioritize the conception of “homus economicus”, which promotes the idea of logical rationality to maximize the benefits of economic decisions. Likewise, they do not consider the theoretical advances that allow us to understand the decision process from a perspective of ecological rationality, which includes the consideration of heuristics, emotions, and socioeconomic and cultural variables as central aspects to be treated in the understanding of human being's decisions. We suggest that the development of public financial education policies must consider the complexity of the decision process in a changing global context.
