Abstract

Indigenous peoples have historically upheld demands of recognition of their political, territorial, social and cultural rights. This includes the right to use their own language, as a vital part of their worldview. This paper analyzes the development of the international human rights standards on collective linguistic rights of indigenous peoples, along with the duty of States to promote and protect.
