Quantifying the Hydrological Contribution of Glaciers in Southwestern Norway at the Beginning of the 21st Century

Keywords: norway, Runoff variability, Glacierized basins, Glacio-hydrological modeling, Glacier Compensation Effect, Runoff composition

Abstract

Highlights• Glaciers in the region provide 19.7% of annual and 18.3% of summer runoff.• Summer-autumn runoff is primarily made of glacier meltwater for glacier cover >30%.• No increasing discharge variability for high glacier cover is found in the study area.• Discharge sensitivity to temperature exceeds its sensitivity to precipitation at glacier cover >42.8%.
